LePage Road intersection to close permanently
LePage Road will be closed permanently at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
The contractor for the Missouri Department of Transportation plans to permanently close LePage Road at U.S. 50/63 in eastern Jefferson City.
The closure will enable Bloomsdale Excavating Co. Inc. to continue ramp construction for the new interchange being built between the U.S. 50/63 Expressway and City View Drive.
After Wednesday, motorists will need to use Schott Road as an alternate route for access to LePage Road.
The contractor will have message boards and various types of traffic control to notify motorists of the closure as well as to secure the safety of motorists and road workers.
Traffic on both U.S. 50/63 and City View Drive won't be affected directly at this time, MoDOT said.
Construction of the interchange is being funded by Jefferson City, Cole County, MoDOT and a Transportation Development District formed by Wal-Mart, which is building a new Supercenter near the new interchange.
The $14.9 million interchange construction contract also includes the site grading and preparation work for the Wal-Mart complex, with Wal-Mart paying for the additional work. Rock from the site grading work is being used in the interchange construction.
The interchange is expected open to traffic by the end of this year.
